Let me show you how I think about investing—with wine.

This wine bottle? It represents all of your money. These four glasses? They’re your buckets of money. And each one serves a different purpose.

Glass 1—This is your emergency cash. It’s liquid, safe, and boring on purpose. We want quick access, not big returns.

Glass 2—This is money you’ll need soon—maybe in the next 1–3 years. Think a new car or that big vacation. It should be low risk and steady.

Glass 3—This one’s for the medium-term—3–10 years out. Maybe your kid’s college savings or a down payment on a rental property. Here, we take a little more risk for growth, but we still keep an eye on volatility.

Glass 4—And this last glass? That’s your long-term money. Retirement in 10+ years, legacy planning, that kind of thing. This is where we really let the market work for us.

Now here’s where most people get tripped up—they pour everything into one or two glasses and wonder why they feel anxious. But when your money is matched to your timeline, it brings clarity and confidence.
