This is what I tell every 50-year-old who thinks they missed the boat on retirement.
You haven’t, but it is time to get intentional.
Here’s what I help walk my clients through:
(1) get brutally honest about your numbers. It’s not a guess, not a feeling. We run the math.
(2) Cut the fluff. This is the season to focus. That means simplifying your accounts, stopping the investment FOMO, and ditching anything that isn’t working for you.
(3) Max out your contributions. Use all tax-advantaged retirement accounts you have access to and max them out each year.
(4) Make peace with trade-offs. Yes, you might need to adjust your retirement age or re-think what retirement looks like. That’s not failure. That’s real life.
Look - I get it. We’ve all had seasons where saving took a backseat. Life happens, but that doesn’t mean you can’t catch up. It just means you need a plan that fits your life.
