This chart from Bloomberg just broke down how the different wealth groups in America hold their assets, and take a look at the biggest category for the top 1%: stocks and mutual funds!

Meanwhile, for the bottom 50% of us, the vast majority of our net worth comes from our houses and cars. Yes, the ultra wealthy still invest in these things too, but the majority of their net worth is invested in the same basic things you and I have easy access to: stocks and mutual funds.
